A public Meet & Greet will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Permitting and Development Center (PDC) where attendees can meet three finalists vying for the important position of Austin Animal Services Director. The chosen director will oversee not just animal shelter operations, but also crucial animal control services, ensuring safe and humane treatment for countless animals.
What’s at Stake: Leadership for Animal Welfare
The Austin Animal Services Director will assume a vital role in promoting public safety and advancing animal welfare initiatives across the Austin/Travis County community. Monica Dangler: With over 15 years of experience in animal shelter management, Dangler has transformed operations to achieve much higher lifesaving rates for animals. Her work at Riverside County’s Department of Animal Services and Pima Animal Care Center made her a strong advocate for innovative, people-centered approaches in animal welfare.
Rolando Fernandez Jr.: Currently the Interim Director of Austin Animal Services, Walsh has two decades of public service within the city. His diverse experience overseeing significant budgets and teams reflects his dedication to animal welfare and public safety, making him a qualified candidate to continue to lead innovative changes.
Lee Ann Shenefiel: With 20 years in local government and a successful track record at Austin Pets Alive!, Shenefiel has effectively fostered partnerships that have strengthened community support for animal services. Her focus on collaboration emphasizes the merging of human and animal welfare.
